Suffolk Show June 2016
Delighted to announce
Wild Earth Works' entry 'Talk the Torque'
awarded the titles of
Best Overall Garden & Gold Medal Flower Show Winner at the Suffolk Show this year.
Enormous thanks go to all the team for their dedication and hard work without whom this would not have been possible.
.
Ultimately, Wild Earth Works' aim was to create a garden that encouraged the public to stop, sit, reflect, share and unwind, wrapped in a cosy enclave, safe from the hustle and bustle of outside.
The Garden Plan
As with 2015, this design drew heavily on natural structures & planting. The garden was framed using the sustainable craft of hazel and willow weaving, all coppiced locally.
The slim threshold invites the visitor to explore beyond. Structural classics like Cynara Cardunculus (Cardoon) with its distinctive grey/silver foliage and enormous purple flower heads, supported by a chorus of softer planting, gave a theatrical element to the entrance.
At the centre of the garden was a medieval tree seat, encircling a majestic Betula Utilis 'Jacquemonti' (Himalayan Birch). The tree's striking white stems added contrast to the lawns, willow and dappled colours of the plants.
Plants were chosen to compliment the naturalistic style of the boundaries and beds. The colour palette used (blues, purples and white flowers, intertwined with green / grey foliage) and aroma kept the bees happy. Emphasis on block planting created a strong identity and was aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
A sunken water trough in the right hand bed, surrounded by gravel and large cobbles, added extra drama to the design.
